If you dont have a light on in the kitchen you cant see the panel. It is not back-lit. Also the panel is stiff and so it is difficult to set a time of use any other function without really pressing hard.

My daughter helped me pick this model because it matched my new stove.. The only thing I dont like is that the side panel letters are dark not White letters so they are hard to see.

The microwave is attractive and well built with easy cleaning. We use this several times a day so it gets a workout.
The only problem we had was it just stopped working. After a call to LG a tech appointment was made quickly and easily. The tech we had was here in just 2days and right on time.
He came in and had it figured out in just a few minutes went out to his van came back with the part and was back up and running again. Very professional and neat.

I like the printless stainless steel finish which matches our frig and dishwasher. The user panel is not on the door which I prefer. It is easy to operate if you have ever used a microwave before. The inside is easy to clean but is brown not white. We prefer white but brown is ok. The damper assy is rather flimsy and the installer had a difficult time installing it. I am still not sure the damper is opening like it should.. other than the damper it is working great.

The keypad screen in the product image is bright and crisp. This is absolutely not the case.
If you have a dark kitchen are installing in an area with adjacent windows that cause reflection have sight impairments relative to age or disability this keypad will be an issue.
Our only solution is to attempt to find a stick-on mini down light.

Thirteen years ago when we renovated our kitchen we happily installed all new LG appliances. I wont get into the problems weve had with the refrigerator and oven at this place and time but we were always extremely happy with the over-the-range microwave. Recently it just died without any warning on Thanksgiving eve but at least it had a good run. We replaced it with the LG LMV1831SS. When we saw it on display in Best Buy there was no way to plug it in. So we were very surprised when we installed it at home and tried to use it for the first time.
I do not have super vision like Superman and so I cannot see what any of the buttons are for unless the kitchen is fully lit up. The clock on the top of the display is lit up like the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree but nothing else is Not only that but the buttons are not very sensitive and I find myself pushing hard on them to make them work. Its aggravating and frustrating.
If you see the photo of the microwave online the buttons are nice and clear almost like they are backlit. That is not the case Very misleading They are totally dark. I swear that theres a film over the buttons to keep the area looking new and I keep trying to pry up the corner of the film so I can see the buttons better but thats not the case at all. Its just that poorly designed. My old microwave was so much better
The second thing Im unhappy about is not as important but very disappointing nonetheless. When I close the door of the microwave the sound is very tinny and it gives the impression of a cheap appliance. I know microwaves are hollow but the door of my last LG microwave gave a nice solid thud when it closed.
I havent yet tried using the included metal tray for microwaving multiple items at once but Im hoping it turns out to be a useful feature.
I also havent yet used the vent and probably wont. The only problem I had with my last LG microwave was that the vent sent all the greasy air straight up to the upper cabinets and ceiling without removing much grease. I would even get straight lines of grease on the ceiling that matched the shape of the vents. But I dont suppose much can be done about that when there is no way to install an outdoor vent.
I hate that LG cheapened the new designs and hope they return to better quality.

We just bought an entire set of LG appliances. I love all of them sooo much...BUT I am extremely disappointed with this microwave
The LG photos advertising it show bright legible numbers and words but in person they are hardly legible Even in bright light I cannot read these words
I ended up overcooking something. I tried to stop the cooking but couldnt find the button because I couldnt see the words So this IS a problem
Its not an issue at all with the stove. I see those numbers and words completely clearly but this microwave has GREY words on black See photo to see both displays.
When I purchased this I was sure the words would be lit up but NOTHING I asked for support and all they said was Sorry this is the design.
Feeling disappointed and very frustrated.

Bought almost a month ago very disappointed with rattle/wobbling sound when it runs but even worse is the extremely dark Control Panel Cannot see without other kitchen lights on even during daytime. Thought I must be missing some light for the panel but in dealing with LG customer service for just short of an hour I got neither issue resolved. Would not recommend.

Overall its a pretty good microwave. Seems to heat up food quickly and evenly. It looks good and matches the rest of our LG appliances well. Similar to the stove the buttons could be a bit easier to push. I also would expect the lights to be brighter both in the microwave and below. I would expect them to match the bright LED lights of the fridge and dishwasher. One thing I cannot stand about this microwave is how loud the beeping is on it. If I am heating something up I am typically standing in the kitchen I do not need to hear this aggressive tone from a mile away. I thought perhaps it would have a tone similar to the washer and dryer. I look forward to hearing those theyre happy and much more pleasant.

Bought this a year ago.It got a problem with display flickering . Called LG service it took 2months to fix .I had to keep calling to find out what was going no one let me know what was happening I only hope that my other $4000 LG appliances dont break . Sorry to say Life wasnt good .

Purchased in October from Home Depot. They didnt have a model on the floor for me to look at. I went online to look at your marketing information and photos. The ones I saw all had the letters on the display visible against the black background Plus my brother has one and his is white letters. Once mine was installed I realized the entire display except for the time was all dark. I need to keep a flashlight by my microwave so I can see what commands I need to push ie Cook Time Defrost Melt etc I called customer service and was told this is the way it was designed. Cant believe this. Wrote a letter to your office havent heard back. Completed a notification online. Received a message saying yall are going to look into this But no one seems to be interested in correcting my unit. Im very disappointed in the feedback Ive received Guess you expect me to live with this inferior product the rest of its life OR place it on the curb and purchase another brand that I can see

The buttons on the control panel are hard to push. The display is not backlit it is very difficult to read the buttons. The photo of the unit had to be photoshopped to make the buttons stand out like that. And an Energy Saver button that only turns off the timer display? O please.

the keypad is a big disappointment Can barely see the characters in good light much less low light. The keypad is reactive enough. And as others have said the stovetop light is very dim. Im stuck with this now but would not buy again or recommend to others. If you like me want LG because it matches your other new appliancesBeware Maybe up the budget to a better model.

This is a great microwave and is very easy to use. All the features are nice to have including the rack inside. Buttons are very reactive and unlike previous microwave ovens I have owned it seems to heat evenly. Installation was even easy. The only thing I would change is the light as it is a little dimmer than I would like but overall I am very happy.

We bought a whole suite of new LG kitchen appliances largely due to the buy more save more promotion.
We originally picked the next higher level microwave which had a few more features and a higher capacity but it was out of stock so we settled on this model. Like most folks the microwave is one of the most used appliances in our kitchen. Weve had this one for a few months and it has performed well. We generally dont use the sensor basked cooking options but weve tried a couple with this one and they do work about as expected. Basically results were slightly undercooked but this is desirable as opposed to overcooked. Our biggest complaints with this microwave I suspect apply to all LG microwave models. The control panel buttons are not backlit and the legends do not have enough contrast so theyre hard to read. We have found we have to have all the kitchen lights on in order to read the buttons. Theyre also difficult to press. They seem to be typical membrane type buttons but for some reason its hard to find the right activation spot so we find ourselves having to press a button several times moving our finger slightly each time until it finally registers the press. The other issue I have with it is the display. Its bright glaring white. There is no control to dim it. As I mentioned above we also bought other appliances so they would all match. The LG range which is below this under cabinet microwave has a nice blueish white display. The microwave display stands out like a sore thumb. Silly me for thinking theyd use the same display. I ended up ordering some colored gel material and cutting a piece to go over the microwave display. The colors still dont match but the microwave display isnt so harsh and doest stand out like it did before. The only other issue I have is the light provided on the bottom presumably to illuminate the stove top below is so weak its almost useless. I was able to find a much brighter LED replacement on Amazon.
Overall were pleased with this LG microwave.

Loved the shelf lg is getting rid of this in future designs. The button panel kept on shorting out. Lg was unable to fix this. They ended up giving me a full refund so I could get next years model

The most obvious concern we have with the unit is how hard you must push the keypad for use. Not like any other unit we have used. Calling it Touch Pad would be incorrect. Additionally the keypad is very dark. In a dimly lit kitchen its very hard to read the keys. Should be backlit. The microwave functionality is fine but thats what you expect
